There are places around the region that offer families an opportunity to get up close with a variety of native and non-native wildlife. The following are great places for kids of all ages to visit:

Chestastee Wildlife Preserve
The Preserve is a magical place, sitting on over 20 acres of gently rolling farmland and housing over 100 animals. Visitors can walk around or feed some of the animals. The pace of the Preserve is meant to be slow as guests’ meander among the exhibits.  There are many places to sit throughout the Preserve, picnic tables to enjoy lunch or a snack, and a playground for the little ones.  There are Group Educational, Special Needs/Support Programs , Civic Group/Community Work Days, Special Events/Parties  and Intern Programs.(Dahlonega)

Dillard House Petting Zoo
The Dillard House Stables has a free petting zoo with many friendly farm animals for your children to enjoy up close. During the warmer months they offer pony rides for the children and a romantic carriage ride around the Dillard House property on weekends. (Dillard)

Kangaroo Conservation Center
New exhibits for 2005 include an "Aussie Walkabout," a 1/4 mile grassy hiking path allowing visitors to see our kangaroo mobs living in natural habitats as well as awesome mountain views, and the "Billabong Encounter," an immersive walk-thru tropical exhibit with Australian animals and plants. Our large Aussie-themed giftshop offers unique souvenirs, nature gifts and light snacks. (Dawsonville)
